This is a multi-part assignment. Use the maps provided:

Part 1

Using an atlas or other device to help you, on a map identify these features of Canada and put them on a map: (5 marks)

Part 2

Using an atlas or other device to help you, on a map identify these features of Canada and put them on a map: (10 marks)
  1. The 14 capitals of Canada
  2. Vancouver
  3. Prince Rupert
  4. Dawson City
  5. Calgary
  6. Inuvik
  7. Saskatoon
  8. Brandon
  9. Flin Flon
  10. Hamilton
  11. Montreal
  12. Moncton
  13. Sydney
  14. Summerside
  15. Gander
  16. Happy Valley/Goose Bay

Part 3

Using an atlas or other device to help you, identify the most densely populated parts of Canada, and those least densely populated.
Using the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) where red is the densest and violet is the least dense, develop a scale that allows you to color a map of Canada to show the most densely and least densely populated regions.  Is there a pattern to where most Canadians live? (15 marks)

Part 4

Using an atlas or other device to help you, on a map identify these features of Canada and put them on a map: (10 marks)
  1. the Saskatchewan River system
  2. the Red River system
  3. the St. Laurence River system (include the Great Lakes)
  4. the Fraser River system
  5. the larger bodies of water into which these river systems drain

Part 5

Using an atlas or other device to help you, on a map identify these features of Canada and put them on a map: (5 marks)
  1. Laurentian Mountains
  2. Rocky Mountains
  3. Castle Mountain
  4. Turtle Mountain
  5. Baldy Mountain
  6. Christmas Mountains
  7. Barbeau Peak
  8. Mont D'Iberville
  9. Cypress Hills
  10. Mount Logan

Part 6

 Now take ONE of your maps and create a MONDO version of it. (25 marks)
Your map may show one of these aspects of Canada:
  1. Provinces/Territories/Capitals
  2. Major Population Centres
  3. Population Density
  4. Canadian waterways and water bodies
  5. Mountains and mountain ranges
 The map should be neat and tidy, colorful, and accurate. Your map may be created as a
  1. Giant version on paper (at least 4 feet by 4 feet)
  2. A clay version showing elevation, etc (a relief map)
  3. ASCII art on a computer
  4. 30 second stop motion animation showing cities/mountain/rivers popping up.
  5. Other ideas. Be sure to get them approved by the teacher.
