You have $1000.00. You are going to give it to a Canadian Christian charity to help with overseas relief. You may pick from any one of the organizations listed above. To help you decide, you will go to their websites and evaluate each organization based on the criteria below (and others that you may think of). Rate each one on a scale of 1 to 5 where 1 is bad and 5 is good. The organization with the highest score gets the money that you're going to donate.
- Christian witness: When you look at the website, can you tell the organization's Christian? Do they make it obvious or do they seem to downplay it?
- Organization: Do they know what they're doing? When you look at their website, can you find out about their projects and exactly what your money would be supporting?
- Accountability: If you have questions, concerns, or doubts, is there a way to contact the organization and find out more? If you check on websites that rate charities, how do they do? The sites below are two places that grade Canadian charities. There are many more.
- Helping: Does the website show how you can do something to help (other than donating)? How can you become involved?
- Communication: Does the group communicate effectively (and cheaply) using e-mail, FaceBook or other tools in order to keep you updated without wasting money?
